Many parts of the country are expected to continue receiving rainfall of varied intensity for the next one week, the meteorological department has said.

In the latest forecast covering November 19 to 25, the weatherman said Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Southeastern lowlands, Coast, Northwestern and Northeastern parts of Kenya will receive rain during the forecast period.

These areas include Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia and Migori counties.

Others are Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and West-Pokot counties where morning rains will usher in afternoon and night showers accompanied with thunderstorms over few places.

Isolated heavy rain of between 20-50mm is likely in the Central highlands, Western Kenya and parts of the Rift Valley, the forecast shows.

“Some areas could experience intense rainfall, leading to localised flooding. Stay prepared,” Director of Meteorological Services, Kennedy Thiong’o said.

“Morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected over few places occasionally spreading to several places,” he said.

The scenario will be replicated in Southeastern lowlands of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta counties as well as the inland parts of Tana River county.

Morning, afternoon and night showers will also be the order of the day over few places in the coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale and parts of Tana River county.

Thiong’o said during the forecast period, daytime temperatures will exceed 30°C in the Coast and Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya comprising Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties.

Lodwar and Wajir will record the highest daytime temperatures at 37°C, Mandera (35°C), Voi and Lamu (34°C) while Mombasa, Malindi and Mtwapa will hit a high of 33°C.

Come night time, the script will flip to chilly weather with temperatures dropping below 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley and the Southeastern lowlands.

These counties include Narok, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi.

Others are Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta Counties as well as the inland parts of Tana River county where the night conditions will be preceded by morning rains and afternoon and night showers.
