A taxi driver has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a female student from ZIPS Nursing School. Taxi Driver Arrested for Alleged Murder of 24-Year-Old Nursing Student Mwebantu reports that the deceased student is identified as 24-year-old Silvia Nanjela. The arrest follows a disturbing incident that took place in the early hours of the morning, leaving the community in shock.

According to Police Deputy Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi, the tragedy began when Nanjela and a friend booked a taxi around 2 am in the Twin Palm area. The friend exited the vehicle in Kamwala, while Nanjela continued alone to her destination in Kamwala South. Upon arrival at her residence, she requested the driver to stop near her gate. As she prepared to pay, the driver allegedly attacked her, striking her on the head with an empty bottle.

Though Nanjela called for help, the driver started the car and attempted to drive away with her still inside. Nanjela continued to struggle, but the driver reportedly assaulted her again with another bottle. In her attempt to escape, she became entangled in the seatbelt, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a drainage ditch. A nearby resident, hearing the commotion, rushed to help.

Startled, the driver took Nanjela’s handbag and fled the scene, abandoning his Toyota Vitz with the keys still in the ignition. Police arrived on the scene shortly afterwards to find Nanjela gravely injured from multiple head wounds. She was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital, where she was admitted but sadly succumbed to her injuries after three days. Following an investigation, police apprehended the suspect, who is now in custody. The vehicle has been impounded, and the suspect is expected to face court soon on charges related to the brutal murder of the young nursing student.
