Detectives are holding a 30-year-old man in connection with the murder of a 70-year-old woman in a quarrel over food in a village in Kiambu.
The body of Pauline Kiragu was found in her farm with blood oozing from her head after she had been hacked by the suspect, police said.
According to police, the suspect used a fork jembe that his grandmother was using at the farm to hit her twice in the head.
The incident happened in Kagongo village, Rweno, Kiambu.
She died on the spot after the Monday morning incident.
Locals told police the suspect had complained the deceased woman had not fed him with food as required.
He then pursued her to the farm where she was busy and confronted her in a physical fight.
According to police, the suspect snatched a fork jembe from the woman and hit her twice on the head.
She collapsed and died on the spot. The suspect fled the scene before he was traced and arrested a few hours later.
Kiambu police boss Michael Muchiri said the murder weapon with blood stains was recovered at the scene and kept as an exhibit.
“We are investigating a murder in this issue and we have a suspect over the same,” he said.
He said they plan to produce the suspect in court before requesting more days to hold him as they investigate the murder.
The body was moved to a local mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.
Meanwhile, police are investigating an incident in which a trolley pusher collapsed and died in Grogon area, Nairobi.
The incident happened Tuesday morning as the deceased identified as Jafred Nandwa, 46, collapsed as he pushed luggage and died.
He was placed on a cart by his colleagues and rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The other colleagues took the body on a cart to the Central Police Station where they reported the same.
Police later moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.
A robbery suspect was lynched by a mob in an incident in Jericho Lumumba Estate, Nairobi.
The body of the man aged about 30 was found on the roadside after the incident on Tuesday.
The suspect is said to have broken into a house in the area and tried to steal goods when an alarm was raised alerting locals.
The mob stoned him to death, police said.
Police discourage mob lynching terming it criminal.
They want suspects to be surrendered to police for processing and possible prosecution.
