Nairobi Teacher Educating 3 Siblings with KSh 20k Salary Fears JKUAT Sister Will Defer: “Nimelemewa”

A young teacher identified as Zeth Matara has expressed fears that his dear sister, a student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) will defer the school again. Sharon Matara, who studies in JKUAT and had deferred. Why is Zeth Matara educating his siblings?  The Kahawa West-based teacher shared that his sister is a second-year student at the institution who had already deferred the previous semester.  “I have been struggling to pay her fee since my parents aren’t employed they have absolutely nothing. I had another sister at Maseno University but she graduated in 2023,” said Matara. 

“At the same time, I have a brother who studies at Kiendege Polytechnic, which I pay for as well. I feel like I am at the end of my tether as I depend on my salary of KSh 20,000 in a private school,” he added. Why did Matara’s sister defer in 2023? According to Matara, his sister had to defer last time because to allow the other one at Maseno University to complete his education.  “I fear that she might differ again through your media am requesting you help me raise even half of the fee so that she can register for units,” he said. When the young girl deferred in 2023, she resorted to selling fruits in a bucket and later on, she hawked back at home, but things never worked, so she went back to stay with her jobless parents. “At home, she used to pluck tea on my father’s farm,” he explained.
