Paris 2024: Zablon Ekwam’s Olympic Games Ended by Injury in Men’s 400m

 

Zablon Ekwam was Kenya’s lone representative in the 400m at the Paris Olympics 

Kenya’s Zablon Ekwam’s Olympic debut started on the wrong foot after he suffered an injury during the first round of the men’s 400m. Ekwam sustained an injury, fell down, and was listed as Did Not Finish (DNF), a painful end to his Olympic dream. Zablon Ekwam was Kenya’s lone representative in the 400m at the Paris Oly mpics.  The 26-year-old was in the sixth heat of the first round and was one of the fastest men in the field. His right leg was heavily strapped and hit the ground in the middle of the race. It is not clear what injury the Kenyan speedster sustained. Kenya’s hope for a medal in the 400m is now over. Wiseman Were is the only other Kenyan in the sprints (400m hurdles) in Paris.


Great Britain’s Charles Dobson won the sixth heat in 44.96 seconds, followed by Alexander Doom and Jevaughn Powell via Olympics.com. Ekwam’s goal at Olympics Before the 2024 Paris Olympics started, Ekwam expressed his excitement to represent Kenya at the Games. “I am very delighted to have qualified because it has been a long time before we had a Kenyan in that event at the Olympic Games,” he said per Capital Sports. He also discussed his ambition for the Olympic Games. “I am just going there to execute well and see how fast we can go and which doors we can open. I am not going there with any pressure. My ambition is to do my best. There is no pressure being the lone Kenyan. It is all about mental strength and I know my capabilities,” he added..
