Sectors worst hit by anti-tax protests

Different sectors to be hit by the failed tax

Many parts of the country have for the past two weeks witnessed unprecedented mass protests that have since resulted in the loss of lives and property worth millions of shillings.

The demonstrations were sparked off by the intended introduction of  a raft of new taxes via the Finance Bill, 2024.

The civil disobedience driven largely by young Kenyans christened Gen Z was initially peacefull but quickly degenerated into deadly expressions of dissent with government.

What followed was extensive destruction of businesses as shops were looted and vandalised by marauding gangs.

The government has since established that the peaceful protests were infiltrated by “dangerous criminal gangs” who orchestrated the wave of destruction and looting.

Many business owners have been left counting huge loses.
