Evans Kiratu’s Kin Narrates Learning About His Death, Demand Justice: “Tupate Haki Yetu”

 

Evans Kiratu’s kin seek justice

The family of the late protestor Evans Kiratu has said that they are demanding justice for their kin. Evans Kiratu’s kin say they are seeking justice. Kiratu was among thousands of protesters who took to the streets of Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, on Thursday, June 20. Kiratu was allegedly struck by a teargas canister while protesting against the 2024 Finance Budget. The bill, which was presented to parliament, advocates for a raft of tax increases, which protesters said would increase the living cost for a struggling populace. The family of the deceased young man recounted how he died a painful death. An aunt of Kiratu stated that they were seeking justice. “My name is Racheal. We learnt of this news from a good samaritan and he said that he picked him from the road. He was hit by a teargas container on his groin, and he was not able to walk or do anything.
