William Ruto Promises Kenyans 350,000 Jobs in Saudi Arabia: "Wamesema Mko Na Bidii, Mjipange"
Ruto said that his last trip to Saudi Arabia guaranteed job opportunities for more than 350,000 Kenyans. Kenya's bilateral agreement with Saudi Speaking in Eldoret on Sunday, October 29, the head of state said his administration will enter a fresh bilateral agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to secure jobs for Kenyans. "Saudi Arabia has 350,000 job opportunities, and they need employees, preferably Kenyans, because of our hard work. So, get ready, we are signing a bilateral agreement, as I will be going back to the country in the next three weeks," said Ruto. Ruto dismissed public outcry that he was spending more on foreign trips, saying that is his main job. "This is how we are going to grow our nation. We are a blessed nation, and this country to change, I promise," he said. This followed the government's move to slash state departments and agencies' travel expenses by 50%. The president said the government will only approve foreign trips that benefit Kenyan taxpayers. "We have cut the travel budget for unnecessary foreign trips by KSh 11 billion, not KSh 500 million as reported," he said in Taita Taveta. "Hakuna Kurandaranda" Data by the National Treasury indicated that the Office of the President spent a whopping KSh 9.09 billion in the period to January against the annual budget of KSh 8.64 billion. How Ruto wants to grow diaspora remittance Ruto said securing foreign job opportunities will help diversify the country's economy through diaspora remittance. "Kenya is known globally among top human capital resource countries. Today we get over $4 billion (KSh 600 billion) from Kenyans working abroad," Ruto revealed. He reiterated his plan to increase the number of Kenyans working abroad and grow diaspora remittances to $1 trillion (KSh 150.5 trillion) annually. According to the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), remittance inflows in September 2023 totalled $340.4 million (KSh 51.2 billion). This represented a 7.1% increase compared to $318.0 million (KSh 47.9) reported in September 2022.
