Criminals kill guard during night robbery in Busia
A night guard was beaten to death by armed thugs who raided his workplace in Butula, Busia county.
Police said the incident happened on Tuesday morning and involved about ten men.
The body of Ezekiel Ogutu Millo was found in a pool of blood at the scene long after the attackers had left, police said.
His colleagues told police that the men posed as sellers of assorted household goods to access the premises only to pull out pangas and tie the four guards on duty.
They then broke into several shops and stole property of unknown value.
It was then that they beat up Millo with a sharp object in the head inflicting fatal wounds.
The other victims were also found with multiple wounds and rushed to hospital, police said.
The gang escaped on waiting motorcycles and no arrest or recovery has been made so far, police said.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and further probe.
Elsewhere along the Busia-Kisumu highway, passengers were robbed in an attack by thugs.
A driver told police they were stopped by three suspects armed with crude weapons.
The gang robbed them of their assorted valuables and cash before escaping.
The thugs also attacked other motorists by stoning them, police said.
The gang had apparently laid an illegal roadblock at the Sega area, which they were using to commit the robbery.
Police said the gang escaped from the scene soon after they had accomplished and no arrest has been made so far.
