President William Ruto has promised that the government will partner with the private sector to create over 100,000 paid internship opportunities.
In a bid to promote incentivised internships, Ruto said that the government will subsidize what employers pay interns.
“If they (the private sector) pay interns Ksh25,000 a month, the government will refund them Ksh12,000,” Ruto said.
The President made the remarks during the graduation ceremony of 3,500 youth under the 2jiajiri Programme at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in Nairobi County.
Ruto also said he will use the affordable housing programme, counties aggregation and industrial parks, the digital economy and special economic zones to create jobs.
“The goal is to reduce poverty and inequality and generate wealth for Kenyans,” he added.
The President also promised that the government will also build 15 new TVETS and hire 17,000 tutors to promote skills acquisition.
“We have doubled the budget for TVETs so that we can expand opportunities for more to acquire technical skills,” he insisted. BY PEOPLE’S DAILY
