Nyamira calls for patience as county processes bursaries
Parents in Nyamira have been urged to remain patient as the county processes bursaries for needy students.
Education CEC Kennedy Angwenyi on Monday said the county government was working to ensure all needy students get support for their education.
He said delays in disbursing the bursaries had been occasioned by delays in receiving cash from the National government.
He assured residents of speedy completion of the ongoing verification of applicants before the funds can be released to the beneficiaries.
“We are in the process of verifying the details of the applicants and ensuring we get the right applicants to benefit from the bursaries. We call upon our parents and those leaders who are complaining about the delayed exercise to give us time as we conclude the process,” Angwenyi said in his office.
Further he urged school principals not to send away learners due to lack of school fees saying the County government through the department of education is addressing the issue through bursaries to help students from needy backgrounds.
“We know we have students in our schools who have not cleared school fees but we urge our school heads to have them in school as we process the county bursary to ensure they get supported to remain in schools just like other students,” he said.
According to the CEC, the applications were made back in March but due to the delay of funds from the National government, the process stalled.
He however assured all the stakeholders that everything is set and the funds will be in the account of the beneficiaries’ schools
Some MCAs has expressed concerns over delayed disbursement of the bursary to the bright and needy students across the county seeking clarification from the education executive committee member. BY THE STAR
