Murkomen lifts ban barring PSVs from using Nairobi Expressway
Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen has lifted with immediate effect the suspension of PSVs from using Nairobi Expressway.
Murkomen in a statement on Thursday said the move will positively impact on the economy, create job opportunities and ensure effective mobility across the city.
“This decision is in line with the government's focus on making Kenya a global leader in the provision of transport and logistics a key driver of sustainable economic development,” Murkomen said.
“As government, we will work with MOJA Expressway company to monitor the usage of the Nairobi Expressway and ensure all motorists adhere to the provisions of the Traffic Act,” he added.
This, he said, will ensure safety of motorists, that of the passengers and those who work at the Expressway.
Murkomen noted that since the suspension of PSVs from using the expressway on July 6, 2022, MOJA Expressway Company has continuously engaged key stakeholders in the Matatu industry to create awareness on proper road usage and safety.
The company has also conducted sentitisation of Matatu Sacco on the terms and conditions of using the Nairobi Expressway.
“The exercise has proved successful with PSV s taking the necessary steps to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and adhere to set rules and regulations,” he noted.
He noted that there has been a gradual increase in the traffic volume in the recent months, with many motorists expressing their satisfaction with the services offered by the Nairobi Expressway.
For instance on February 6 this year, MOJA recorded 10,000,000 trips on the toll road. BY THE STAR
