KEDIPA concerned over slow issuance of visas to deaf handball team
Deaf Sports Federation is concerned over the slow issuance of visas to its sportspersons and officials who were meant to represent Kenya in the World Deaf Handball Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, from July 1-15
The Kenya Disability Parliamentary Association (KEDIPA), has raised eyebrows that several talented deaf sport persons may miss out of this ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ sporting event.
The World Deaf Handball Championships in Copenhagen offers a qualifying path to the Deaflympics Games 2025.
"No sportsperson or official has been issued with a visa yet the games are already underway," KEDIPA said in a statement.
KEDIPA has requested the Royal Danish Embassy in Nairobi to fast track the issuance of visas to the sportspersons.
"We further urge the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be closely involved in seeking a diplomatic solution to this delay. As parliamentarians and representatives of persons with disabilities, we commit to remain vigilant in ensuring that the rights of persons with disabilities are fully protected," the statement added BY THE STAR
