57% of married women use modern contraceptives – KNBS
The use of modern family planning methods in married women has increased over time to 57 per cent, this is according to the 2022 Kenya Demographic and Health Survey.
According to the report, the greatest gains were in the use of implants, which increased from less than 1 per cent before2003 to 19 per cent in 2022.
"The modern use of family planning in married women has increased from 18 per cent in 1989 to 32 per cent in 2003, and 57 per cent in 2022," the report shows.
The use of injectables increased from 3 per cent in 1989 to 26 per cent in 2014 before declining to 20 per cent in 2022.
According to the report, five per cent of women aged 15–49 reported using emergency contraception in the last 12 months
The uptake of emergency contraceptives is highest among women aged 20–24.
The 2022 KDHS was implemented by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders.
The data collection was done from February 17 to July 31, 2022.
The sample for the 2022 KDHS report was drawn from the Kenya Household Master Sample Frame (K-HMSF).
The sample size was computed at 42,300 households, with 25 households selected per cluster, which resulted in 1,692 clusters spread across the country, 1,026 clusters in rural areas, and 666 in urban areas.
It was also done through a questionnaire where they used the household questionnaire, the woman’s questionnaire, the man’s questionnaire, and the biomarker questionnaire. BY THE STAR
