Stop overlapping-Kenha urges motorists in Naivasha

Drivers utilizing the Nairobi-Naivasha-Nakuru route have been urged by the Kenya National Highways Authority to stop overlapping.

This comes after Saturday's overnight traffic jam in Naivasha caused drivers to spend the night on the roadway.

According to reports, the traffic jam started in Kikopey, Gilgil.

Kenha's Director General Kung'u Ndungu said in a statement on Sunday that the World Rally Championship event in Naivasha was to blame for the massive traffic surge and the overlap of agitated drivers.

He claimed that traffic cops have already arrived at the scene and are organizing all attempts to make things better.

"Accordingly, motorists are advised to exercise lane discipline and avoid overlapping as they approach this section in order to avoid further congestion," Kenha said.

Additionally, drivers traveling the aforementioned portion are urged to take the alternate routes Naivvasha-Njabini-Olkalou-Ol Joro Orok-Lantet-Nakuru and vice versa.

"We are monitoring the situation and will keep updating regularly," Kenha added.

Kenyans have requested the road's enlargement on Twitter in order to prevent a repeat of the incident.

"The expansion of Nairobi -Nakuru highway is long overdue. My mom and aunts just spent the night here cold and hungry!" a user Brenda Kiarie said.

"More reasons why that Nairobi Nakuru/Kisumu highway should be dual-carriageway,"Timoshenko Kiptoo tweeted.

"Current situation in Naivasha. To those in Kisumu, better use the Narok way to Navigate to Nairobi. Things are tough here. Nakuru Nairobi highway should be considered for expansion to avoid this in the near future,"Dollar Nagafwa said.
