Partygate report finds Boris Johnson deliberately misled Commons
The privileges committee has concluded that Boris Johnson deliberately misled the House of Commons, committing a serious contempt.
The Privileges Committee has also recommended Boris Johnson should have been suspended from the House for 90 days.
It says he deliberately misled the House, the Committee, impugned the Committee and was "complicit in the campaign of abuse and attempted intimidation of the Committee."
In light of Johnson's resignation as an MP, the committee has recommended that he should not be granted a former member's pass - which would have allowed him limited access to Parliament, including for lunches and to see former colleagues.
The report adds "We recommend that he should not be entitled to a former Member's pass."
The sanctions recommended in the report will have to be voted on by MPs.
Last week, Johnson stepped down as a Tory MP after being given advance sight of the Privileges Committee's report
In an explosive statement, he called the committee a "kangaroo court" whose purpose "has been to find me guilty, regardless of the facts"
Johnson has admitted his statements misled Parliament but denied doing so intentionally or recklessly
They make recommendations, but it is up to the Commons to decide whether to accept them. BY THE STAR
