Friends left when I lost elections, former MP aspirant says
Former Isiolo North MP aspirant Mwenda Thuranira has detailed events that happened soon after he lost his election bid.
He vied for Isiolo North Constituency seat in the August 2022 general elections but lost to Joseph Samal of the Jubilee Party.
Thuranira is a vocal politician and businessman who runs a real estate firm.
In a statement on Saturday, Thuranira said he had many people who supported him during the campaign period.
He said they included service providers, media personalities, stakeholders of various groups and old friends.
The friends, he said approached him with ideas promises and demands and he realised most of them were offering support in exchange for favours.
"There were fellow aspirants, several service providers, media personalities, stakeholders of various groups and even old friends popping out of every corner with ideas, promises and demands," he said.
"It took a lot of discernment to decide who was adding value to the campaign and who was there for the goodies."
He said that after the elections, his friends disappeared as they saw that he had nothing to offer them.
"If these people disappeared from my life as magically as they appeared.
Some, I am grateful, remained by my side to help me pick up the pieces. The beauty of my shrinking circle is it gave me time to recharge and strategize on the next leg of my journey," he said.
It was the first time he was throwing himself in the murky waters of politics. BY THE STAR
