Businessman under probe after losing pistol in Naivasha

Police are investigating claims by a businessman that he lost his pistol after he forgot it in a toilet in Naivasha town.

The businessman, Moses Tanui, reported he had lost the weapon on June 4 after he forgot it in the toilet at Delamere shopping centre, along the Nairobi-Naivasha highway.

Police say they are investigating the claims.

Tanui said he was traveling from his Molo home to Nairobi when he stopped at the shopping centre for a shortcall. He is a licensed gun holder.

He entered the washroom and placed his Glock pistol with 15 bullets on the window of the toilet.

After finishing with the call of nature, he said, he walked back to his car and proceeded with his journey to Nairobi, only to realize that he had forgotten his pistol at the washroom at the Delamere shopping centre.

He then drove to Karen police station where police accompanied him to the scene but no recovery was made.

Police asked to review the CCTV footage of the place as part of the probe into the incident.

The matter is being investigated with hopes of recovering the weapon, police said. No arrest has been made so far.

Such incidents involving both civilian and uniformed officials are common. The weapons are usually used in crimes hence the panic from authorities.

There are more than 12,000 civilian firearm holders in the country.    BY THE STAR
