Mount Kenya was rewarded accordingly, says Gachagua

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said the Mount Kenya region was awarded public offices according to the amount of support they gave Kenya Kwanza.

Gachagua said there is no problem with the government giving the lion’s share of Principal secretary positions to the region.

“We saw the other day that people took the President to court over PS nominations. Is there a problem in awarding many seats to Mount Kenya? Didn’t we show our support through our votes?” he said.

The DP was speaking at an inter-denominational church service at Embu University on Sunday.

He said President William Ruto was just doing the honourable thing.

“We did not sign an MoU or give you conditions. We trusted you and you trusted us because we knew you were a man of honour,” the DP said.

Gachagua said when the day came to make appointments for office positions, the President gave them even more than what they had expected.

He moved to quash any doubts about there being any trouble with the unity of the Mount Kenya region.

“Ruto's government is intact and the attention Mount Kenya is getting is commensurate with the support they showed,” Gachagua said.

Parliament on Thursday unanimously approved the appointment of the PSs nominated by Ruto on November 2 and they were sworn in on Friday.

The court directed the continuing of vetting, which had been stopped after a suit was filed challenging the list on basis of gender and regional imbalance.

Majority leader Kimani Ichung'wah said all the nominees met the needed requirement to be nominated into office.

"All the nominees complied with requirements of the constitution. I want to thank all the chairs of our committee for their good work," he said.    BY THE STAR
