Moischers, Stanbic claim Nairobi Basketball Association titles

 

Moischers won the Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) 2022 men's crown beating Clique Mamba 75-54 at Strathmore University Sports Complex.

Peninah Nthenya charges won the best of five-game series 3-1 after surprisingly losing Game Three 76-71 the previous day.

It was Mambas who took the first quarter with a slim 18-17 lead before Moischers went to the breather with a huge 19-7 cushion.

The third quarter was locked 12-12 before the new champions raced away to a string 26-18 difference in the last stanza.

Jeff Onyango named the Most Valuable Player (MVP ) notched 20 points, Wycliffe Rayasi 22, Kevin Apollo 14, and Abdullah Said 13 for Moischers.

"We underrated them in that loss. But today we came well-focused and did not give them space from the start. Today I look decided to operate inside more" said Onyango.

"We started off well but a second-quarter lapse did us in. In the third it was square but again we couldn't stop them in the last." Offered Mambas coach Rose Mshilla.

Mambas, who topped the Western Conference had 18 points from Alex Nzuki and 14 from danger man Williams Onditi.

Stanbic Bank also won the women's title hitting Safe Spaces 53-43 in the decisive Game Five.

The bankers who tied the series 57-36 the previous day led 19-18 in the first, 16-7 in the second as they led 35-25.

After intermission, Safe spaces battled to cut the deficit but still trailed 9-8 in the third and were up 10-9 in the last.

The four teams will represent NBA in the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Interprovincial playoffs in Mombasa in two weeks.    BY THE STAR
