Nikita Kering performs at BBC's 1Xtra Afrobeats concerto

The first ever Afrobeats concerto, with the full complement of the BBC Philharmonic orchestra, marks 20 years of BBC's 1tra dedication to supporting and showcasing black culture.

Kenyan singer Nikita Kering recently made an appearance at BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Afrobeat Concerto where she performed a couple of her songs with BBC's philharmonic.

This was her first time performing with BBC's Philharmonic support who equally introduced Nikita as loving vocals.

"Afrobeat means energy, that's what it means and the world can finally get to experience the beauty of African music," said Nikita as she introduced herself.

The ex-singer wrote on her social media that "This Sunday the 27th, I’ll be joining CKay, Sarkodie, BBC philharmonic and more amazing artists, to share some Afro-orchestral vibes with the world! less goo!"

Nikita noted as well that it is "A dream come true"

Nikita was one of a handful of artists chosen to perform at the Afrobeat Concerto and brought much energy to the night.

Others who performed were Sarkodie for the one off concert.

The artistes took the stage with the BBC Philharmonic providing the backing vocals in what was dubbed an amazing performance.

The concert also featured exclusive live performances by Nigerian singer-songwriter CKay, London-born and double Mobo nominee Maleek Berry, and Finesse singer-songwriter Pheelz.

This is the first time a full orchestra in the UK has staged a dedicated concert to Afrobeats.

In a note, The BBC added that the concert was filmed at the Philharmonic’s recording home in Salford.

Congratulations to Nikita.     BY  MPASHO NEWS
