Ex-NTV journalist Namukabo Werungah's finds dad after 30 yrs, just days before wedding

Namukabo Werungah an Ex-NTV journalist has shared her inspiring story on how she reunited with her after 30 years of searching just days to her wedding.

The lady who works for the BBC told  BBC Africa Eye how not having met her biological father had a profound influence on her and made her want to find him.

“I am about to get married and for the first time, I needed to know who I was and where I belonged. I felt that I was not good enough for anyone to claim me."

She tried getting her mother to open up about her estranged dad, something she wasn't up for but still gave her the small tidbit that her father was a police officer who worked in Sacho.

She then went rummaging through employment files at the Baringo police station but found no record of her father.

But Werungah wasn't giving up yet, she asked her her aunt ( former teacher at Sacho High School), who co-raised with her mother, who said that her father was a military man who had been in a unit that built the school.

She later went to the school were the deputy principal told her that; “The school was built by the 12th battalion and I was a student at the time. However, the only person I remember is their commander,  a colonel whose contacts I can share with you,

And luck finally smiled on her after she met Rtd. Colonel Moses Kwonyike who revealed that he knew her father.

“There were three officers who went by that name, all brothers, but the one who I worked with in Sacho was an introvert. If you met him, you would see that you are a carbon copy," the former military official told her.

After a subsequent visit, Kwonyike told her the whereabouts of her father who was from a well-known family that lived in Nambale.

Funny thing is that at this time, Werunga got afraid about meeting him but decided to use a phone call to prepare the way.

However, her father Lawrence Omunyin, was amiable to her and welcomed her with her five other siblings and said that her resemblance to him was undeniable.

What was also shocking was that he didn't know he had a child, saying that he would have looked for her had he known.

The BBC employee finished the story by saying that she hoped she could develop a strong relationship with her him.    BY MPASHO NEWS
