You were elected through IEBC but claim poll was flawed - Muigai to Orengo
Former Attorney General Githu Muigai has told off Siaya Governor James Orengo over his remarks that the August election was flawed.
In his submission on Thursday at the Supreme Court, Muigai, who is Chebukati’s lawyer, said there were governors and senators who were elected under the same process but are satisfied with the results.
"As we sit here, there are no less than three governors and senators who were elected under the IEBC. I plead with the court to ask them ‘are they happy with their own election’ if so, how then is it that this election is irredeemably flawed?" he posed.
Orengo, who was recently elected Siaya Governor, had said IEBC was dysfunctional, yet the electoral commission had conducted the Siaya polls, in which he emerged the winner.
Orengo is representing Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga and had told the court that IEBC cannot carry out a credible election.
"The Raila case is not a conspiracy theory or an ordinary event. The IEBC is dysfunctional and cannot carry out a credible election," he said.
Other lawyers who are in Raila's legal team that hold elective seats are Okong’o Omogeni (Nyamira Senate seat), Kisumu senator-elect Tom Ojienda and Makueni Senator-elect Dan Maanzo.
Muigai further said there is nothing wrong with IEBC and Wafula Chebukati and that the IEBC chair had done his best in this election and should not be vilified.
“...This gentleman goes beyond anything we have ever had before. It (vilification) was personalised, vindictive and intended to lower his standing,” he said. BY THE STAR
