Ruto visits Uhuru at State House ahead of Tuesday's inauguration

President-elect William Ruto is at this hour meeting the outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta and State House, Nairobi.

Ruto is accompanied by First Lady-elect Rachel Ruto.

Reports indicated that the two leaders are making a personal hand over ahead of Ruto's inauguration on Tuesday at Kasarani Stadium.

The two leaders are expected to address the nation in a joint press conference after the private meeting which started moments after 3pm.

Monday's meeting is seen as a ice-breaker session for ease of power handover during Ruto's swearing in ceremony as the country's fifth President.

The two leaders have had a frosty relationship for months since their fall out over succession politics.

Uhuru endorsed Azimio leader Raila Odinga who Ruto defeated at the August 9 general election.

Raila disputed the results and moved to court but the Supreme Court unanimously upheld Ruto's win of over 7.1 million votes against Raila's 6.9 million votes.

Monday's meeting is the first time Uhuru and Ruto are meeting in months.

While delivering his speech shortly after the Supreme Court's verdict on September 5, Ruto revealed that he had not spoken to his former political soulmate for months.

Uhuru has to date never congratulated Ruto.    BY THE STAR
