Ruto takes a swipe at Uhuru in first parliamentary address

President William Ruto has yet again taken a swipe at former President Uhuru Kenyatta saying he is the current leader of the opposition.

Speaking during the opening of the 13th parliament on Thursday, Ruto said the turn of events in the August 9, polls laid bare the beauty of Kenyan democracy.

He said in the build-up to the just concluded elections, Kenya became the first country in the world where a sitting deputy President turned to be the leader of the opposition.

"This only happens in Kenya, the sitting deputy president became the candidate of the opposition and the leader of the opposition became the candidate of government and as things would be, the opposition candidate won the election and became president and the president became the leader of the opposition party," Ruto said.

The head of state's remarks left members of the bicameral parliament cracked up.   BY THE STAR
