Fresh storm rocks Kenya Kwanza over six piece voting
Deputy President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza camp has been hit by a fresh wave of infighting over the battle for elective seats.
On Thursday, Musalia Mudavadi's Amani National Congress party declared it will be fielding candidates against Ruto's United Democratic Alliance Party.
The party warned UDA against what it termed as being 'pushed to the wall' saying calls for a six-piece voting pattern were unfortunate.
The party said voters should be encouraged to vote for any candidate within the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and not necessarily from UDA.
"The six-piece calls by UDA officials should be denounced because they are killing the spirit of working together," said ANC Secretary-general Simon Gikuru.
In this regard, ANC said it had prevailed upon its governor candidate for Murang'a County Mike Gathogo to back the Farmers Party's Irungu Nyakera.
Farmers Party is also a member of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
This means that Nyakera will run against senator Irungu Kang'ata who will be flying the UDA flag for the governor's seat.
Gikuru said the move would bolster Kenya Kwanza's chances of winning the seat despite Ruto backing Kang'ata.
"This now makes the victory for Kenya Kwanza a possibility," he said.
Speaking against the alleged UDA zoning in the Kibra constituency, ANC aspirant Malasen Hamida asked UDA to stop "pushing us to the wall."
"There is no monopoly of decisions," she said at a press conference held at the ANC party headquarters. BY THE STAR
