CBC classrooms to be complete by July- Magoha
The second phase of the construction of 10,000 CBC classrooms will be complete by July, Education CS George Magoha has said.
According to the Ministry, the first phase is almost complete, at 75 per cent.
The classrooms were to be complete before the start of the national exams.
Speaking while supervising the opening of exam containers at Nyali DCC’s office, Magoha said the construction will take a break to allow the marking of exams.
“By the grace of God before July this year, the 10,000 classrooms shall be ready, we shall make a statement,” Magoha said.
He asked contractors who still have pending work to ensure it is done before April.
“We can contain the eighteen per cent of the work that is done so I am hoping that by the first week of April, we shall have completed phase one,” Magoha said.
Once KCPE and KCSE results are released, contractors will be back to schools to continue with phase two.
With the construction at 75 per cent, this means 3,900 classrooms of the targeted 5,200 in the first phase have been completed.
This further means that some 1,300 classrooms are still at different levels of construction.
The first CBC classroom was commissioned in the Eastern region in Meru County in January 2022.
About 8.1 million learners are in the current CBC and the pioneer cohort is expected to transit to junior secondary in 2023.
The government already disbursed Sh8 billion to improve infrastructure and build 10,000 classrooms for junior secondary learners by next year. BY THE STAR
