Police, three business workers nabbed for robery with violence
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Wednesday nabbed a police officer for robbing an accountant.
The police officer based at Ruiru police station was arrested alongside three Mitsumi Business Park workers following a robbery with violence incident where they robbed an accountant 50,000 USD.
This was after his pistol was found to have been used in the robbery before he was arrested from his Ndori village in Bondo, Siaya County almost 500 kilometers away from the scene of the crime.
Though he told police he was on leave at the time of the robbery, he did not explain how his gun was used in the attack.
This prompted the detectives to mount an operation to trace other suspects.
The group was armed when they confronted the accountant on Monday evening and grabbed the money that was in a rack sack.
They also robbed her of a laptop, police said. They at gunpoint confronted the accountant as she got off the lift of the building and grabbed the money and gadget before running away.
A CCTV camera at the building captured the events showing two of the men confront the woman and pushing her back to the lift at gunpoint and later grabbed the money before escaping.
There were reports the money was much more than the reported but police are investigating the claims.
"Armed with pistols, the four, together with others who are being sought accosted the accountant while inside a lift as she was heading to deposit the cash in the bank," the George Kinoti led department said.
According to Kinoti, from one of the suspect's houses in Huruma estate, Albert Ochola, detectives based at Parklands recovered 10,000 USD.
Ochola is a plumber in Mitsumi Business Park.
Another 12,300 USD was recovered from Walter Kiverenge's house at Kawagware.
Kiverenge who is the staff supervisor had concealed the cash inside a water dispenser.
Another suspect Bernard Ogutu Oketch is also in custody in whose residence in Mathare area one, 10,000 USD, a brand new TV and two mobile phones were recovered.
The detectives said they recovered 11,000 US dollars from one Wycliffe Marani’s house in Kawangware.
Two more suspects and the missing balance currently being pursued.
Kinoti said the suspects will be arraigned tomorrow Thursday to face various charges including misuse of firearm and robbery with violence.
