19 more deaths as Kenya records 756 new virus cases

 

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Monday confirmed that 756 new cases of the virus were reported from a sample size of 4,316.

This is a positivity rate of 17.5 per cent.

This brings the number of cases in the country to 63,244 since March, while the cumulative tests stand at 76,797.

Another 19 deaths were also recorded, bringing the fatalities to 1,130.

Kagwe said that there are 1,331 patients currently admitted in various hospitals across the country.

Another, 5,843 patients are in the home-based care programme.

Fifty-nine patients are in ICU, out of which 21 are on ventilatory support.

Also, 33 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen, out of which 74 are in general wards and 16 in the HDU.

From the new cases, 731 are Kenyans while 25 are foreigners.

In terms of gender, 478 are males while 278 are females and the youngest in a one -year-old baby and the oldest is 81.

Nairobi leads with 371 cases, Mombasa 82, Kiambu 52, Busia 39, Uasin Gishu 34, Kajiado 27, Kakamega 18, Nyeri 17, Machakos 17, Nakuru 14 and Kisumu 13. 

Kilifi 10, Meru 8, Kisii 7, Nandi 5, Nyamira 5, Laikipia 4, Homabay 4, Lamu 4, Kericho 4, Nyandarua 3, Murang'a 3, Narok 3, Elgeiyo Marakwet, Vihiga, Isiolo and Bomet have two cases each.

Bungoma, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Turkana, Trans Nzoia, Kitui, Tharaka Nithi and Wajir have single cases each.

This comes just a few hours after the US President Donald Trump welcomed Pfizer Inc's experimental Covid-19 vaccine results, and the stock market boost it brought.
