Head of Public Service Kinyua to address Kenyans on country's state of security

Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua will on Wednesday address Kenyans on the country's state of security days after the Muranga skirmishes.

The National Security Advisory Council chaired by Kinyua will address a press conference at 3 pm at the Harambee House.

His address follows concerns by Kenyans after the killing of two people in the Kenol town clashes between two rival Jubilee camps.

On Sunday, rival Jubilee factions Kieleweke and Tangatanga clashed during DP William Ruto’s visit to Kenol in Murang’a county, leaving a trail of bloodshed and destruction.

ODM leader Raila Odinga said there was a need for peace-loving Kenyans to be more concerned, cautioning that the seeds of 2022 poll violence are being planted now.

Raila said the chaos that left two people dead and scores of others injured was a product of machinations by politicians who want to use unorthodox means to take power in 2022.

But Ruto has distanced himself from the clashed and asked the police to hold to account those behind the Murang’a violence.

Speaking from his Karen residence on Tuesday, Ruto said the security has details of the perpetrators and should take action against them.

The DP said that the skirmishes were a continuation of what had been done in Kisii when some youths were deployed to cause violence during his development tours.

He said that the police are being used to execute "political assignments", calling on the Inspect General of Police Hilary Mutyambai to stand on the side of justice and serve all Kenyans without discrimination.

The DP alleged that the spats of violence being witnessed in his meetings were a product of those uncomfortable with the conversion of the empowerment of the ordinary people.
