Nyong'o receives medical equipment donations worth Sh22m

 

The Kisumu county government on Thursday received medical equipment and supplies donations worth Sh22 million.

The equipment was donated to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital by Helping Hand For Relief and Development.

They include dialysis machines, an anaesthetic machine, ICU beds, personal protective equipment, lab equipment, virtual signs monitor, among others.

Helping Hand board member Mohammed Karama said the equipment targets to boost healthcare provision in the hospital that serves the region. JOOTRH serves Western Kenya and parts of North Rift.

He pledged continued partnership with the county in the health sector for better service delivery to citizens. 

Karama said the organisation also support schools, orphans, water and sanitation programmes. 

He said they have reached out to 42 counties with various support initiatives.

Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong’o thanked the organisation for supporting the county’s health sector.

Nyong’o, who was accompanied by Deputy Governor Mathews Owili and JOOTRH CEO Peter Okoth, said the donations were in line with the modernisation of the hospital.

He called for more partnerships to support other health facilities in Kisumu.

Owili said the county also received donations geared towards fighting Covid-19. “We are not off the hooks yet. In our county, we have had a spike in the past few days. We had quite a number of cases only second to Nairobi,” Owili said.

He urged residents to continue adhering to the Ministry of Health's directives in combating the coronavirus.

“The disease is still here with us. It requires a collective responsibility to prevent its spread in our midst,” Owili said.
