Five arrested for bribing cops with Sh600,000 over bhang found in Juja

Five people have been arrested with bhang worth millions of shillings.

The bhang were recovered at the home of Martin Mungai at Mwireri Area, Juja Farm.

Mungai was arrested alongside Henry Shakira, Musa Abdi, Abdi Matayo and Brian Mwanzia on Friday evening.

This was after a plantation of the same drug was also discovered in the same compound.

DCI director George Kinoti said the five tried to bribe a senior officer who was at the scene with an offer of Sh 689,000.

The cash and the drugs have been retained as exhibit pending arraignment of the suspects.

Last week, Narok Senator Ledama Olekina called for the law to be amended to legalise cannabis use for medical purposes.

The senator shared a video in which he is in the middle of a farm, full of bhang while on tour in Lithuania.

Olekina who had been hosted said that Lithuania has legalised the drug and that Kenya should also amend its laws so that the drug can be used to reduce pain in cancer patients.

The late Kibra MP Ken Okoth had championed the legalisation of bhang.

Okoth had tabled the Marijuana  Control Bill in 2018 to decriminalise marijuana.

Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko had suggested during Okoth's funeral service that it was time to continue Okoth's work and legalise medical marijuana to treat cancer and protect the health of the masses.
