Rainfall will likely continue over several parts of the country, the weatherman has announced.

In a forecast on Thursday, the Kenya Meteorological Department noted that the rains will continue particularly within the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley and the Northwest.

"Rainfall intensities are likely to increase as the forecast period progresses," it noted in the forecast for between August 6-10.

A few areas in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Northeast and the Coastal Strip may also receive occasional rains.

"Most areas in the Southeast Lowlands are likely to remain dry," the weatherman added.

According to the weatherman, strong southerly winds of more than 25 knots (12.9m/s) are expected over the eastern part of the country.

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi County) and some parts of the Southeast Lowlands and the Central and South Rift Valley are likely to experience occasional cool and cloudy conditions.

Early in the week, the weatherman predicated heavy and moderate rainfall in some parts of the country.

It noted that heavy rainfall above 70 mm is expected over most parts of Laikipia, Baringo, Samburu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu and Nakuru counties.

The forecast running from August 4-10 shows that Busia, Kakamega, Nandi, Vihiga, Kericho, Bomet, Nyamira, Kisii, Kisumu, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Marsabit and the coastal areas will receive light rainfall of between 10-50 mm.
