Alarm as 20 remandees test positive in Thika,Makongeni

20 remandees have tested positive for the new coronavirus at various cells in Thika and Makongeni.

Kiambu County Police Commander confirmed the reports saying three cases were tested at Thika Police Station, while 17 others tested positive at the Makongeni police station.

The cases are from 68 samples tested last week after two remandees showed symptoms of the coronavirus.

Police officers from various stations within the county were also tested and are waiting for their test results.

So far, six police officers within Kiambu County have tested positive for the new coronavirus since much.

The latest comes a day after the Ministry of Health reported 688 new positive cases -the highest daily number so far- on Saturday.

The new patients include 425 males and 263 females, with the youngest of them being 7 months old and the oldest 95 years.

Nairobi Metropolitan area still leads in the number of infections with 7,298 so far followed by Mombasa (1,812), and Kiambu (725).

CS Kagwe added that 450 patients have also recovered from the disease within the last 24 hours; 401 of them being under home-based care while another 56 being discharged from various health facilities.

This takes the total number of coronavirus recoveries thus far to 4,440.

Three more patients however also succumbed to the disease, hence the country now has 225 fatalities.
