Man shot dead in Mombasa after snatching gun from cop

A man was on Thursday shot dead by police after he snatched a gun from a cop manning Gulf Bank in Bondeni area, Mombasa County.

The man is suspected to have been mentally challenged.

"If he knew how to cock the gun, many people would have been killed," Dan Mutembei, a witness said.

Mutembei said another officer shot the deceased before the situation got out of hand.

The body was taken to the Coast General Hospital.

The police are yet to comment on the incident.

Cases of persons attacking officers and taking their guns are not new in Bondeni as similar incidents were reported between 2012 to 2016.
