Newborn baby whose 'cries were mistaken for a cat' rescued from pit latrine
A newborn baby was found in a pit latrine in Kirinyaga, hours after residents kept passing it thinking it was a cat crying.
The baby was discovered in Kimunye village, Gichugu on Thursday evening.
‘Residents who were passing by thought it was a kitty cat,” one of the residents Pauline Njeri said.
It is suspected that the infant was thrown into the latrine behind Kimunye Shopping Centre by someone who is not a resident of the area.
Residents claim that they did not know any woman who had been pregnant the last nine months.
Police officers were called in and they managed to save the baby.
“I informed police officers based at Kimunye police post,” Jackline Wanjiru said.
The baby boy was taken to ACK Kabare dispensary for first aid then to Kerugoya hospital for further treatment.
Gichugu OCPD Anthony wanjuu mbogo said police are looking for the mother.
