Body of missing Dutch billionaire Tob Cohen found buried in his home
The body of Dutch billionaire Tob Cohen has been found buried in his home more than 40 days after he was reported missing.
Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Georoge Kinoti said the body was discovered inside a septic tank in his compound at Kitisuru, Spring Valley Road in Nairobi.
Cohen’s employees had earlier told police that the last time they saw Mr. Cohen was on July 20.
According to them, the 71-year-old had left in a white car, carrying only a briefcase.
His estranged wife Sarah Wairimu Cohen was arrested on August 28 and interrogated at the DCI headquarters.
She was arraigned in court the next day and detained for 12 days.
Despite appealing the court’s decision to detain her, the judge ordered that remain in police custody until September 12.
On Thursday this week, Sarah Wairimu was again arraigned in court to face murder charges but did not take plea.
The court ordered that she undergo a mental assessment. She is the prime suspect in the case.
Mr. Cohen was a tours and travel magnate who had been living in Kenya since 1987.
He and Wairimu were reportedly embroiled in a bitter divorce case which saw him file assault charges against her a week before he went missing.
“Around midnight, as he was standing on top of the stairs leading to the garden, Sarah suddenly pushed him down stairs, causing our client to fall and seriously injure his forehead,” court papers read.
Wairimu has no children from her marriage to the late Cohen.
