Matatu group arrested in Nairobi over loss of life of passenger

POLICE
The Criminal Investigation Directorate (DCI) detective on Saturday arrested two crew members in Githurai, Nairobi, for the death of a passenger.

Bus driver Naphtali Fondo, 33, and his conductor Alex Gikonyo, 20, allegedly pushed 24-year-old Gerald Kimondo from a moving vehicle, in Githurai, causing his death.

Police say the suspects will be charged with murder.

Push out

The detective in charge of the case has determined that the bus was involved last year in a similar case near the Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi, where 20-year-old Doreen Kinya, a student at the Nairobi Institute of Business Studies, was pushed out of a Githurai bus owned by Zam Zam Sacco.

Ms. Kinya died some time after arriving at the nearby Neema Uhai Hospital in Ruaraka where a Good Samaritan rushed her.

A post-mortem on his body revealed that he broke his skull after falling from the bus.

His left arm was broken while his face and arm were bruised due to impact with the runway.

Judge Wakiaga suspended the request until July 19, when Musyoka would have legal representation.
