The decomposing bodies of two medical students were found on Saturday in a rental house on the Jua Kali estate in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County.

James Thiuru, Kenneth Kamau, 24 and 22, had been assigned to the pharmacy department of the JM Memorial Hospital in the city of Ol Kalou.

Police in the central sub-county of Nyandarua found their bodies on Saturday afternoon, three days after they were reported missing.

They suspect that they committed suicide by drinking a mixture of alcohol and a poisonous chemical.

BLOCKED HOUSE

The deputy interim commander of the sub-county police, Florence Karimi, said police were alerted by the mother of one of the inmates, who reported missing persons on August 7.

“The mother informed us that she lived with a friend at the Jua Kali estate. The rental house had been closed inside and emanated an unpleasant smell, ”said Ms. Karimi.

She said the cops entered the house through a window and then opened the door.

They found the bodies in the bed, covered with blankets.

ALCOHOL

Karimi said they found bottles of second-generation alcoholic beverages in the house.

The police also found a sachet of a white substance that they believe is poison.

Nyandarua Health Director Jorum Muraya said the students informed JM Memorial on Monday and that the pharmacist in charge asked them to find a house and settle.

“They were ordered to report officially on Thursday, but they didn't show up. The pharmacists decided to give them until Monday. Both were from a university in Nyeri County, "said Dr. Muraya.

"It's a very sad incident. Let's wait for post-mortem and police investigation reports."
