BEIJING
Kenya’s First Lady Margaret Kenyatta was on Monday praised for advocating better healthcare for women and children in the country.
United Nations Children’s Fund Global Executive Director Henrietta Fore said she deserves commendation for her work.
Ms Fore said her organisation is ready to partner with the First Lady in galvanising support for maternal, newborn and child healthcare through the Beyond Zero initiative, a rallying call for policy prioritisation and formulation in the health sector launched in 2014.
“You are a wonderful role model with the right spirit and we would like you to consider being our global champion for maternal and newborn health through the Organisation of African First Ladies Against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA),” Ms Fore said.

It was discussed that youth dialogue should be explored further to make them more productive in their societies.
Ms Kenyatta welcomed the support: “We thank you for what you have done in the past and look forward for more collaboration. I look forward to working with you in your next visit to Kenya and will support your global healthcare interventions for mothers and children.”
She said the second phase of the Beyond Zero Strategic Framework commits to work closely with health workers through capacity building.
