A nine-year-old girl is nursing injuries after she was allegedly defiled by her 16-year-old neighbour in Mumias, Kakamega County.
The girl was headed home from school on Friday afternoon when the incident occurred at a sugarcane plantation.
“We are holding him as we conduct investigations into the matter.
“He will be arraigned to answer charges of various offenses once police are through with their investigations,” Mumias OCPD Peter Kattam said.
The girl was taken to Matungu Sub-County hospital for treatment.
Mr Kattam asked residents to cooperate with police to plug rising cases of defilement.
