The top decision making organ of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has pushed to June 2018 its elections that were set to be held in December 2017.
Meeting in Mombasa, the national executive committee (NEC) also resolved that Mr Wycliffe Omucheyi takes over as the chairman and will preside over the annual delegates’ conference that will take place from December 13 to 15.
Current Chairman Mudzo Nzili, who had earlier on declined to take mandatory leave, will now proceed on leave together with his vice-chairman Samson Kaguma.
“We have resolved the issue now,” said Knut Secretary-General Wilson Sossion by phone.
Mr Nzili will retire on May 16, 2018 while Mr Kaguma will retire on April 2, 2018.
The issue of retirement of the two had threatened to divide the union.
