Man dies after falling into 50 feet deep borehole in Kapsabet

A man’s attempt to retrieve a jerrican from a borehole turned tragic after he fell in and died in Kapsabet, Nandi County.

Police said Geoffrey Mutai had descended into the family borehole on Wednesday to recover a jerrican used for fetching water when the incident occurred.

According to police and residents, Mutai is reported to have slipped and fallen into the 50-foot-deep borehole.

His body was later retrieved and taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

In the Singhor area of Nandi County, a night guard died following an attack during a robbery involving coffee berries, police said.

Another guard was seriously injured in the Wednesday dawn incident at Coffee Land Outgrowers Limited, Kabalebo.

Staff reported finding the store doors open and bags of coffee beans outside before discovering the two guards unconscious in one of the rooms.

One of them, identified as Japheth Kurgat, 41, was pronounced dead. His colleague had deep head cuts and was taken to hospital, where police said he was in stable condition.

Police said investigations are underway to identify and arrest the suspects. The body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy.

In Rodi, Homa Bay, police are investigating the discovery of a human arm found abandoned in a sugarcane farm in Kogwe village.

Police said the arm, severed above the wrist, had been wrapped in a bag.

Officers said markings found on the arm were being examined to establish their authenticity.

The identity of the victim and the motive remained unknown.

The limb was moved to the mortuary for further examination.

In Othaya, Nyeri County, police said they were probing the death of a 40-year-old woman found in her bed.

The woman, identified as Bilha Kibira, was found unresponsive by her 12-year-old daughter on Tuesday.

Police said blood spots were seen on her pillow, though no visible injuries were noted on the body at the time.

The family told police she had epilepsy.

The body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy as investigations continue.
