His widow, Mama Ida Odinga and children have been welcoming guests at the family’s burial place since he was buried on October 19. Gor Mahia fans visit Raila Odinga’s grave On Tuesday, it was the turn of Gor Mahia fans who first congregated in Kisumu before making their way to Siaya to pay their tributes to a man who served as their patron until his last breath.

The fans chanted along the streets of Kisumu and at Raila’s gravesite as they paid tribute to Raila, who has been described as the greatest Kenyan to have ever lived. “Today at Kang’o ka Jaramogi, we joined thousands of Gor Mahia fans from all branches across Kenya to pay our last respect at the grave of our PATRON JAKOM Raila Amollo Odinga. As Gor Mahia Homabay Branch, we want to thank Her Excellency Governor Gladys Wanga for her support to the Branch and the entire Gor Mahia family,” said Silas K’Oriaso, a Gor Mahia fan. Raila was not just an ordinary patron to the club but was also a staunch supporter who always attended their games whenever his busy political life allowed. His last act as patron was to donate KSh 10 million to help the club prepare itself for the 2025/2026 SportPesa League. Gor Mahia’s performance this season K’Ogalo, under new Ghanaian coach Charles Akonnor, have since surged to the top of the table as they seek to reclaim the title they lost last season to Kenya Police.

Gor Mahia beat the defending champions in their recent game at Nyayo Stadium to go top with 16 points. Kakamega Homeboyz are a point back in second place, while newly-promoted Nairobi United are third with 12 points. Raila Odinga met with Gor Mahia’s leadership shortly before his death on October 15. After the international break, the Green Army will face Kariobangi Sharks, with the Mashemeji Derby also around the corner. Eliud Owalo confirmed as Gor Mahia’s new patron Gor Mahia has since confirmed that Eliud Owalo will take over Raila Odinga’s role as patron on a full-time basis “This is to formally notify the general public, the football fraternity in general, and the Gor Mahia Football Club members in particular, that the club has confirmed the appointment of Eliud Owalo as the substantive club patron with effect from the first day of November 2025,” read the statement from club chairman, Ambrose Rachier. Owalo had, until Raila’s demise, been the deputy patron.
