ODM Party Leader has joined Kilifi residents and the coastal community in mourning the passing of former chief and respected Kaya elder, Mzee Gideon Baya Mung’aro.

The deceased is the father of Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, who is also an ODM party member.

In a condolence message on X, the ODM leader described Mzee Mung’aro as a visionary figure who embodied the spirit of love, unity, and cultural pride among the people of the greater Gede community in Kilifi County.

“I am saddened by the news that Ex-Chief Mzee Gideon Baya Mung’aro has passed on. He is the father to H.E Hon. Gideon Maitha Mung’aro, the Governor of Kilifi County,” Raila said.

He noted that Mzee Mung’aro, as a Kaya elder, was a fearless defender of the rights of native communities at the Coast, especially the Mijikenda.

“He championed the preservation of our cultural heritage and stood firm in promoting the welfare of our people,” he stated.

The ODM leader also recalled meeting the elder on several occasions, describing him as jovial and always ready to welcome visitors to his home.

“On behalf of my family, the ODM fraternity, and my own behalf, I extend heartfelt condolences to Governor Mung’aro, the entire Mung’aro family, the people of Kilifi County and the wider Coast region.

“May God grant you peace and strength during this difficult time of mourning,” he said.

He also conveyed his deepest condolences to the governor, the people of Kilifi County and the coastal region at large.

Kilifi Governor Gideon Maitha Mung’aro on Sunday announced the death of his father, Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior.
