‘Ban CCM leadership from entering Kenya’ -Senator Sifuna

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has called for the immediate ban of Tanzania’s CCM party leadership from entering Kenya, until Tanzania apologizes over the torture of Activists Boniface Mwangi and his Ugandan counterpart Agatha Atuhaire.

In a statement on June 3, 2025, Sifuna noted that Kenya should withdraw  her apology to Tanzania.

“First ban the entire CCM leadership from visiting our country. Second, withdraw from joint hosting of CAF with the dictatorships in Uganda and Tanzania.

“Thirdly, move the EALS annual conference from Zanzibar. Withdraw that fake apology and demand that Tanzania apologize to us instead,” Sifuna stated.

His remarks emerged at a time when the abductions of the two activists in Tanzania continued to attract anger from Kenyans, especially leaders and human rights groups.

This was after President William Ruto rendered an apology to Tanzania on May 28, during the Annual National Prayer Breakfast in Nairobi.

“To our neighbours from Tanzania, if we have wronged you in any way, we ask for your forgiveness,” President William Ruto said.

He extended the apology to Uganda, saying, “If there is anything that Kenyans have done that is not right, we want to apologise.”

Meanwhile on Monday June 1, Mwangi and Atuhaire revealed the brutality they allegedly went through in the hands of Tanzanian law enforcement officers during their abduction.

They had travelled to Tanzania on May 18 to follow court proceedings in a treason case facing the main opposition leader Tundu Lissu.

The activists said they were forcefully removed from their hotel on the night of their arrival, moved between police stations before they were handed over to the alleged oppressors.
