The decision came after an outcry from Kenyans who found the song’s lyrics to be vulgar and perceived it as a mockery of Christianity. KFCB takes action against Embarambamba, Getumbe KFCB (Kenya Film Classification Board) took action by sending a demand letter to the song’s owner, William Getumbe, urging him to delete the song from various online platforms or face legal consequences. The same directive was also issued to his fellow artist, Chris Embarambamba. The demand letter explicitly stated: “A demand letter has been issued to Embarambamba and Getumbe to remove any inappropriate content from their various platforms. Failure to comply will result in legal action in accordance with the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya.” Getumbe, in an interview with TUKO.co.ke, confirmed that the song was taken down due to three unknown individuals filing a copyright strike against it. Furthermore, the account had been reported, and its termination was temporarily on hold. Despite the song’s controversial nature, Getumbe expressed his frustration. He said he had invested in the song’s production and believed that the freedom of expression, a constitutional right, should protect his work. In defiance of the removal, he vowed to appeal the decision and take the matter to court, challenging the KFCB’s directive. “My song has been pulled down because some people claimed its ownership. I’m so disappointed because I had invested my money. I will appeal and move to court to defend myself because everyone is attacking me,” he said. Will Getumbe sue Ezekiel Mutua? Previously, Getumbe refused to delete the song from his YouTube channel or social media accounts. He vowed to take legal action against Ezekiel Mutua if the song was removed without his consent. Regarding the alleged blasphemy, Getumbe maintained that his controversial song was a positive one.
