The County Government of Kiambu has introduced endoscopy services at the Kiambu Level Five Hospital, which enables less invasive procedures and surgeries to enhance healthcare services.

The introduction of the new endoscopy machine at the hospital allows doctors to examine early detection of conditions like esophageal cancers, ulcers, and other gastrointestinal disorders.

Speaking during the inauguration of the services at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital, where doctors from other Counties had come to learn about matters of endoscopy technology, Dr. Patrick Nyaga, Chief Officer of Health Services, lauded the move saying it will improve the quality of care for patients.

“Dr. Nyagah said the equipment, which is one of the over 500 million pieces of equipment bought by the county government of Kiambu, will significantly reduce surgical waiting times, and importantly, it will improve the quality of care for our patients”. He said.

Further, Dr. Nyagah said the county was already training over 20 doctors in these specialized procedures, which will ultimately enable them to handle up to 30 endoscopy patients daily.

Dr. Pankajani, a retired GI surgeon from the University of Nairobi and past president of the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA), highlighted the importance of this program for the county.

Endoscopy is a medical procedure where a doctor examines the inside of your body using a long, thin, flexible tube called an endoscope, which has a camera and light on the end.

The procedure allows doctors to visualize internal organs and structures, aiding in diagnosis, treatment, and even performing minor surgeries
