Tensions between the church and Kenya Kwanza government appear to be escalating after individuals claiming to be DCI officers raided Pastor Eliud Ng’ang’a’s home in Ruiru on Thursday, November 21. Pastor Eliud Ng’ang’a said six men identifying themselves as DCI detectives raided his home at night.  The cleric expressed concerns for his safety and that of his family following the raid that was orchestrated by six individuals. How did DCI raid Pastor Ng’anga’s home?

In an interview with Citizen TV, Ng’ang’a said that it all started when he noticed six men trying to gain access to his home, which caused him to question them.  This led him and his son to step outside and question the individuals about their identity and reasons for attempting to access their home. “I asked them who they were, but they never responded to me. So I asked my son to take a video of how the events were unfolding including the number plates of the vehicles that the men used,” he said.

The clergyman added that when his son pulled out his phone to record the incident, one of the men attempted to draw his gun and threatened to beat him. Ng’ang’a said the confrontation ended when the men, who later claimed to be DCI detectives, received a call from an unknown individual, possibly instructing them to leave him and his family alone. They departed shortly after the call. Why did DCI raid Pastor Ng’anga’s home? Pastor Ng’ang’a, who is also a Kenya Power and Lighting Company employee, said the raid occurred after he delivered a sermon criticizing President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government.

The preacher suggested that the alleged detectives may have targeted his home because of the sermon. “Some things the government does may be so that the country’s churches can bow to their demands. I preached a sermon saying that if you want people to follow you, start denying them food. A hungry person can do anything you want. I don’t know if this sermon touched anyone ar triggered anything, the cleric said. Ng’anga and his family are now living in fear following the incident. They have reported the matter at Gatung’ura police station.
