Many Kenyans have rallied behind Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as he faces accusations of favouritism in the National Assembly. Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro (pictured) was accused by his colleagues of favouring his constituency in resource allocation. On Tuesday, March 11, several MPs from both sides of the aisle launched an onslaught on Nyoro, whom they accused of using his chairmanship post in the Budget and Appropriations Committee to unprocedurally channel extra money to his constituency for development. The onslaught was masterminded by the leader of the majority, who is also Kikuyu MP, Kimani Ichung’wah, and his counterpart from the minority side, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed. According to Nyoro’s accusers, the MP shortchanged his colleagues in the public participation phase of the budget-making process to unfairly appropriate funds to his area.
However, Kenyans, in their numbers on the internet, came to the rescue of the lawmaker, whom they lauded for being development-orientated. They accused Nyoro’s naysayers of being hurt by his development track record,, which resonates well with the citizenry both within and without Kiharu. To them, channelling money to impactful development, whether fraudulently or not, is still a win as the taxpayer’s money is being put to a better use. “What is wrong with Ndindi Nyoro prioritising his constituency in development? That is how it should be for all MPs. These other bastad blue blistering barnacles are busy demagoguing as Kiharu is being developed. They are just but Ndenderu pundas,” argued former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi.
